About · Smart Home DIY Solutions

I got tired of watching money leave my house.

I'm Sarah Mitchell — a DIY enthusiast who started fixing, growing, and building things myself, then wrote down everything that actually worked. This is where all of it lives.

It started with a bill. Three hundred and forty-seven dollars, on an ordinary Tuesday — same appliances, same habits, no good reason for the number. That was the moment something clicked: I was paying, month after month, for things I could actually handle myself.

So I started small. A weatherstripped door here, a pot of herbs on the windowsill there, a shelf I built instead of bought. Some of it worked beautifully. Some of it failed — and honestly, the failures taught me more than the wins did.

"The best money I ever spent on my home was the money I learned not to spend."

The more I did, the more I noticed how much of this stuff is quietly gatekept — hidden behind jargon, or a shrug and a "just hire a pro." But most of it isn't complicated. It's just never been explained plainly, by someone who's actually done it.

So this became the place where I write it all down: the projects, the mistakes, the money saved. No fluff. No theory I haven't tried with my own two hands.

What I believe

Three rules I don't break.

Tested, not theoretical

If a guide is here, I've tried it, tested it, or would happily do it myself. No armchair advice.

Plain English, always

No jargon, no gatekeeping. If a neighbour could follow it over a cup of coffee, it's ready.

Save money, not corners

Cheaper doesn't mean worse. Spend less — without cutting the things that actually matter.

Come build something

Pick a project, and keep the savings.

Follow along, save some money, and maybe surprise yourself with what you can do. Or just say hello — I read everything.
